Recipe: Ombre Cake

My younger cousin graduated from middle school last week, so we had a small celebration at our house. I jumped at the chance to bake a cake, especially after watching this video from Sweetapolita. She is one of my favorite food bloggers. Everything she makes is gorgeous and sounds delicious. I have never tried making anything from her blog, so I thought this was a good opportunity to do so. I used her vanilla cake recipe and whipped vanilla frosting. First off, I have never made a vanilla cake from scratch so I was a little nervous. But I followed the instructions ( I  did not use the almond extract because I did not have it on hand), and I was very pleased with the cake. The vanilla frosting was also very good! However my only regret with this cake was using my favorite chocolate frosting in the middle of the cake. I think a chocolate mouse would have been better.

I also wanted to incorporate Sweetapolita’s swirl effect from her video tutorial. However I tried an ombre method instead. I was very pleased with the result and can’t wait to try more colors and shades in the future.

  1. Good job! I’m a great cook. Baking? Not so much. I just made a box cake for the first time a few months ago lol smh. But i wish I’d seen this prior to my ombre post! I would have included it 🙂

    • Aw thank you! That would have been nice to see. And yes baking takes a lot of practice but it will get easier over time. 🙂 I’m the one that needs to try cooking more often. Haha
